Houston, we have lift off! CotW and NASA are ready to RHoK

Fri, 12/02/2011 - 21:20

Coalition of the Willing is pleased to announce its partnership with The Collaboration Project, a multi-stakeholder enterprise involving members of Fragile Oasis, Open NASA,  One Young World, The Hub, Umovement, Random Hacks of Kindness, and USAID. Together we plan to build a unique online collaboration system for people and organizations to solve the challenges of the world.

We kick things off this weekend at Random Hacks of Kindness, a global hacking event for humanity. The Collaboration will present simultaneously at five locations across the US: San Francisco, Austin, Portland, Milwaukee, and Philadelphia. We are dividing the work between two main teams, focusing on two dimensions of the project. The East coast team will focus on building a user-friendly database of projects worldwide. The West coast team will focus on developing the social networking and data visualization tools specified in the Catalyst MAP design.

NASA astronaut and project ambassador Ron Garan will be at the Austin event to pitch the project. Ron has completed a video shoutout to be screened at the other events.

To see how we are pitching the work, check out the RHoK problem page for the Collaboration Project. For technical details, see the problem page for the Catalyst MAP.

If you are a hacker and near one of the event locations above, RHoK up on Saturday and introduce yourself to the team. We would love to meet you. This is a great opportunity to get on board a truly historic project at the ground floor!

See these infographics for features of the system that we plan to create.
